Where the Draa and Dades Valleys converge, Ouarzazate is the crossroads of travel in the great south. The landscape becomes a kingdom of palm groves, orchards and gardens. Between the valleys and the palmeraies, nothing but ergs or dark rocks scorched by the sun. Further along, visitors will enter the heart of a universe of golden sand and tall dunes. The desert extends as far as the eye can see, an incredible ocean of light. An authentic region of a thousand and one contrasts, Southern Morocco is absolutely worth discovering for its diversity and the friendliness of its inhabitants.
Whether you are more of a stroller or a trekker, magnificent excursions await in the Dades Valley! The Dades oued that finds its source in the High Atlas has dug out some of Morocco’s most spectacular canyons. On your agenda in the gorges: hiking, rafting and rock climbing!
When travelling in southern Morocco, discover the Draa Valley: between Agdz and M’Hamid and passing by Zagora, the Draa is a long fertile band in the middle of the Hamada, an enormous limestone plateau. You will discover here flourishing oases and palm groves. On the road from Ouarzazate to M’Hamid, there are many great excursions to go on!
Calling all adventurers! Merzouga and Erg Chebbi are two of Southern Morocco’s main attractions. In this ochre desert, gigantic dunes move and change shape at the whim of the winds, offering travellers a colourful light show. The landscapes get wilder and more untamed the further east you venture…
From Merzouga or M’Hamid, go off and bivouac in the Sahara! Experience the lifestyle of the Sahraouis nomads, the blue men of the Sahara. The nights are lively and convivial but finally the silence of the night takes over, to be appreciated under a tent or under the stars your eye deep in the immensity of the scintillating Saharan sky.
