A day trip in Essaouira, the Pearl of the Atlantic
Often called Morocco’s Saint-Malo, because of its ramparts and fortifications, Essaouira is also frequently compared to the villages of the Greek islands thanks to its white houses and blue shutters. The east and west converge like nowhere else in Morocco. You are sure to fall under the spell of the enchanting city of the Gnaoua musician-healers!

Things to do while there
As soon as you arrive in Essaouira you’ll make your way straight to the harbour to catch the return of the sardine fishermen, a very colourful show! Dozens and dozens of crates of silvery fish circled hungrily by a cloud of seagulls are thrown from hand to hand landing finally on the dock under the curious eyes of visitors. Between the harbour and the city, don’t miss the Sqala and its impressive line-up of canons. Stroll around the ancient medina and check out its fish and spice markets, the grain souk and its tranquil square where sipping on a cup of traditional mint tea will make you feel like a local. After you’ll see the city’s Sqala where lovers meet to gaze out to the sea, and the thuya woodworking artisanal center.
For your free lunch, we recommend the local taverns at the entrance of the harbour.
