This walk around Tazzarine is a slow discovery of the Moroccan desert on foot. It’s an ideal way to discover the south of Morocco for the first time. In this region, where the Sahara meets the foothills of the Atlas, this hike will take you through plains open to the south, small oases and massive dunes. With a camel caravan carrying your luggage and equipment, you’ll move from bivouac to bivouac at a rate of 2 to 5 hours per day.

In the morning, meet your team – guide, cook and driver – and set off from Ouarzazate by minibus along the road that crosses the Saghro djebel. From Agdz, you follow the green ribbon of oases of the Draa Valley. You reach Tazzarine in the early afternoon.
Picnic lunch in the shade of an acacia tree near the village of Amrad.
Appointment with the team the camel team to load logistics and start the hike from the village of Amrad for a short walk.
3h30 journey and 1h30 walk.
Night in a desert bivouac.
You go from village to village along the Oued Taghbalt: palm oases, gardens, shady paths and fortified ksars. The scenery is grandiose. Set up your bivouac in the heart of the oasis, in its soothing coolness.
5-hour walk.

Leaving the Taghbalt oasis, you reach the Toukal desert plateau. You hike along a sandy ridge before reaching the spectacular dune massif of Foum Tizza. Set up tents in the dunes.
4-hour walk.
Overnight in tents in the heart of the dunes.
You cross the Foum Tizza gorge and make a short climb to reach the crest of Djebel Amgharfi, a massif characterized by its sandy canyons. At the summit, panoramic views over the entire Tazzarine region and the Saghro djebel to the north-west. Descend northwards to the ruined village of Mchilou.
4h30 walk.
Night in bivouac.
Crossing the Saharan open spaces and the lunar plateau, you head for Isk N’Brahim, with its rocky points rich in fossils. Bivouac in the shade of palm trees.
5-hour walk.
Night in bivouac.
In the morning, a final hike with a view of the blue peaks of Djebel Saghdrar. You meet up with the vehicle near the village of Timganine and return to Ouarzazate. On the way, you have lunch in a small restaurant. You arrive in Ouarzazate at the end of the day. Check-in and overnight at your hotel. Dinner on your own.
