4WD tour in southern Morocco

Spectacular trails allow you to cross Morocco's Atlas Mountains and the edges of the Moroccan Sahara. The Moroccan government sets no limits besides exercising caution and respect for natural sites where you're behind the wheel of your 4WD rental vehicle. It’s one of very few countries to be so tolerant with this activity so take advantage of it! After only a few kilometres off the paved roads, the wonders of incredible landscapes and exceptional encounters are yours! Get off the beaten track literally, and explore the trails of the south. No need to be completely adventurous, we’ll provide an itinerary that will keep you from getting lost or confused.

Your itinerary

Day 1 : Ouarzazate
Welcome and private transfer from the Ouarzazate airport to your accommodations in a family hotel. Enjoy quality Moroccan food for dinner.

Day 2 : Ouarzazate - Skoura - Boumalne (about 4h)

Your car will be dropped off at your hotel and you’ll take off for the Dades Valley, first taking the road then a trail to discover the palm grove of Skoura. One of Morocco’s most beautiful, it extends for dozens of kilometres at the foot of the Atlas Mountains. Kasbah after Kasbah go by with luxuriating greenery in between. You can also take a detour to Sidi Flah to admire its Kasbah nestled into the shored of the oued (river) Dades. By the end of the day you will arrive in Boulmane and settle into your Kasbah guesthouse there.

Day 3 : Dadès Gorges - Todhra Gorges (about 6h)

You drive up the Dades Valley that cuts the Atlas flanks more and more deeply. Berber villages highly perched or nestled against the depths of a valley maintain a traditional way of life, raising livestock and market gardening. At the mountain pass after Msemrir, the view is stunning. A steep and spectacular trail will allow you to reach the Todhra valley that you’ll descend with an impressive array of lanscapes going by your window. The cliffs dominate the depths of the valley from atop their 300 metres. A climber’s paradise! At Tinerhit you’ll get back on the national road that will take you to Boulmane. Overnight in the same accommodations as the night before

Day 4 : Boumalne - Sagho - N’kob (about 6h)

Early morning departure for the long leg of the day. Cross the Jebel Sahro, a volcanic mountain range between the Atlas and the Sahara. Geologic chaos has created vertical needles, basaltic plateaus, and little valleys that shelter scanty vegetation. The most impressive part is the Tizi n’Tazazert mountain pass, 2280 metres in altitude. Here, you’ll have an extraordinary view over the Atlas in the north and the Sahara in the south. Once you arrive to N’kob, you’re already in the desert...
Overnight in a renovated kasbah

Day 5 : N’kob - Agdz (about 3h)

In N’kob, you’ll get back on the paved road that connects the Tafikaket and Draa Vallers, but don’t hesitate to stary from it south a bit to explore a few oases and palm groves that you’ll see from the road. Arriving in the Draa Valley, is always a surprise. Its overflowing greenery seems incredible after so many kilometres of arid barren land. Stop and take the time to walk around the wild gardens. Arrive in the end of the day to Agdw the “attic” in Berber. A little city in the high valley. Overnight in a guesthouse installed in a big garden in the crook of the valley.

Day 6 : Agdz - Ouarzazate (about 1h30)

Keep driving to Ouarzazate. You’ll go back through the Jebel Sahro from a different angle this time. Drop the vehicle back off at the airport in Ouarzazate.
